What is the future of web development?

"The only constant in the world of web development is change," is a phrase that seems to be part of the industry's DNA. Despite the fact that web development is constantly changing, nobody really knows what's in store for it in the near future.

The future of web development has been the subject of a lot of debate online in recent years. There is no way to predict what will happen in the near future, given that new innovative technologies are continually being developed.

It has been predicted that web development will undergo drastic change in the next ten years, remain somewhat the same, or even disappear entirely. Is there a hypothesis that is closer to the truth than the other? Interested in finding out more? Let's take a look together.

There will be no web design or web development in ten years’ time so neither will exist.

This is one of the most popular theories among online magazines.

Why?

There is also a strong support for this theory among platforms that support low-code and no-code development.

Basically, the idea behind it is a very simple one: in 5 to 10 years, people won't need to write any code themselves anymore. It will be the machines that will do it.

There are several possible scenarios from here, and the following are some of them:
There will be no reduction in the number of jobs, but they will be redefined completely.

It is predicted that designers, marketers, and other professionals will be able to create simpler apps, websites, and other digital tools visually, without having to write a single line of code. As a result, developers will be able to assist with more complex projects. This will lead to a decrease in the need for developers and designers in the near future.

As the tools we use to accomplish website tasks become more efficient, we will see an emergence of new roles, hybrids of what were once two separate positions - hybrids of what were once two distinct positions.

Essentially, the jobs will disappear completely since everything will either be built using templates and ready-to-use components or by using software that does not require any coding whatsoever.

Those who will be able to handle the support of these low-code platforms and components will be the only ones who will need to be hired to handle this sort of work.

In the future, everything will be powered by artificial intelligence.

There is also another view that suggests that the future of web development, just like many other technologies, will rely heavily on artificial intelligence. We can already see evidence of it today, as it is something we are witnessing every day.

Today, there are several popular implementations of these technologies, including:

  • Using the voice command system
  • Algorithms that are capable of making smart recommendations
  • Programming, testing, and writing that is automated
  • Virtual reality, a world of possibilities

There is already an impact of artificial intelligence on the design and development of websites. For example, smart grids can be used for front-end development and coding assistants can be used for coding.

There is no business or organization that has not implemented some sort of artificial intelligence to simplify their work.

Hence, in the coming years, dynamic websites powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be one of the hottest technologies on the market.

More insights in the world of

web design

AR/VR is going to be the future of web development.

Virtual reality on the web, supported by WebXR, is still a relatively new concept but it is already quite impressive.

As we look at the future of web design, if the future is AR/VR, then we will be able to use better libraries for designing 3D objects, we will be able to use better browsers and web technologies.

The most likely scenario is that web developers/designers will also start to work on designing virtual spaces (hello, Metaverse), 360-degree views, VR games, and VR/AR/XR apps directly within their browsers.

The web as we know it is going to be redefined by Web 3.0 and blockchain technology.

It's safe to say that you've heard a lot about this already, so we won't go into a lot of detail about what Web 3.0, blockchain, and the open web are all about. This is a very plausible view, considering all of the latest trends that have been developing over the past few years.

As far as the format is concerned, it will remain somewhat the same.

The last thing we need to worry about is if things do not change too much for the next decade or so. Based on yesterday's weather, it is safe to say that the focus will be on building better APIs, an open web, and cross-platform apps in the future.

Until a few years ago, JavaScript had no chance of competing with native mobile apps on the market. There were also a lot of desktop apps and games that were far ahead of the competition. It does seem as if we are moving in the right direction, especially if you look at what's currently possible in a browser today.

It is important to note that the field of web development is constantly evolving as we discover more and more advanced tools and programming languages each day. In other words, despite the fact that things on a web front will stay more or less the same, they will become faster, better, and more convenient for users as a result.

Due to the fact that the world is still gradually moving online, there will always be a need for web specialists to meet the needs of the online world.

As we are riding along this vertically climbing technological curve together, 8+ years to 2030 is a very long time for guesswork when it comes to technology.

It is possible that in the near future, the bulk of websites will be VR/AR experiences developed by artificial intelligence systems based on an interview with the client.

Alternatively, it could possibly be pretty close to how it is today, with incremental advantages in development tools being able to enable smaller teams or solo developers to take on more sophisticated projects, while larger teams and agencies would be able to build in more features, again redefining what a website is.

It was not that long ago that we were creating HTML emails using arcane table-based layouts in the mid-2000's. A decade later, table-based layouts are still the norm, even though preprocessors such as MJML have helped to eliminate some of the tedium associated with them.

There is no doubt that the principles, concepts, and thinking involved in development will still apply, and anyone in the industry who is willing to learn and adapt on an ongoing basis will be able to remain at the forefront of development.

Every day, there are new developments on the Web that affect the way we do things. We live in an ever-changing industry when it comes to web development.

We may not be able to see the changes occurring on a day-to-day basis while they are occurring, but we are quite able to look back at the past few months and see that a lot of things we are doing now are very different than what we did before.

As one of the fastest-paced industries, it is important for us to remain ahead of the curve and learn about what's coming up in the web development industry or else we may risk being left behind in the dust of a rapidly changing industry. It may seem overwhelming at first, but when you look at where we'll be in a few months or years to come, it's actually pretty easy to see where we'll be.

We are going to go over some of the things we think will happen in the near future as a result of some of our predictions.

There is a decline in demand for PSD to XHTML/CSS conversion services as a result.

A large majority of current jobs consist of WordPress development or specific and specialized server-side scripting (such as PHP, for instance).

There are a number of niche jobs available to web developers, such as the customization of open source software. These jobs are, in short, becoming more popular.

Standards for the web are being appreciated more and more

Previously, selling clients on the importance of valid, standards-compliant, and semantic code used to be a challenge, however, with so many devices and browsers on the market today, standards have become even more crucial if you want to produce products that are flexible and interoperable.

There is a greater demand than ever for coders who are able to work with web standards with more web browsers supporting open web standards and companies ditching proprietary software in favor of open technologies. As a result of this trend, companies that focus on producing code that is compliant will benefit greatly from it.

Internet Explorer Will Actually Be Cool

In our opinion, that is exactly what we believe. There are several reasons for which we are excited about the new version of Internet Explorer 9. One of the biggest reasons for this is the fact that it will finally be a modern browser with HTML5 and CSS3 support that are fully compliant with the standards.

A further benefit of the launch of IE9 is that it will make IE6 three browsers old by the time it is released. Now that IE6 will be three browser versions old and almost 10 years old, big corporations that have been hesitant to update may finally be compelled to do so.

People are also beginning to realize the need to upgrade their browser for safer browsing due to the identification of several security vulnerabilities in outdated versions of IE. As far as the UK and the rest of Europe are concerned, Microsoft is going to have to offer multiple browser options, which should further reduce IE6 usage.

Headless and API-driven ecommerce allows continued innovation

The concept of headless commerce refers to the decoupling of an online store's ecommerce platform from the frontend presentation.

Increasingly, ecommerce businesses are adopting headless due to its flexibility on the backend, along with its added SEO, content marketing, and digital experience capabilities.

We gain greater control over our content and customer journey through checkout with headless. Using the headless eCommerce solution, we were able to combine all of our stores into one domain, for which we developed additional features.

There will be a need to learn more languages and technologies in order to be successful

The fact that web developers know and work in several languages on a single page and on a single site is not an uncommon occurrence. A person who wants to be the best at what they do must possess both a broad knowledge base and specialize / niche themselves into something quite narrow at the same time.
